In the past two years, chatting with many friends in cross-border e-commerce and overseas marketing, I’ve noticed a phenomenon: people spend more time discussing “how to bypass Facebook’s risk control” than discussing products and users. This is quite interesting and reminds me of my early days, when I was tirelessly searching for scripts, studying fingerprints, and tinkering with proxy IPs to manage accounts in bulk.

But what was the result? Often, after a brief “success,” a more thorough wave of bans would follow. Then everyone would start a new round of “technical upgrades.” I’ve seen this cycle too many times. For example. You write a perfect script that simulates human clicks, randomizes operation intervals, and even includes mouse movement trajectories. From a single session’s perspective, it’s flawless. But the system doesn’t just look at this one instance. It looks at: this “user” has logged in from IPs in the US, then Germany, then Japan over the past 30 days; their friend growth curve is a perfect straight line; posts are always made within a few specific hours set by the script, regardless of time zone changes; they’ve never used the mobile app, even though this email is registered with Instagram.

These cross-dimensional, long-term sequential behavioral characteristics combine to paint an extremely “non-human” profile. The system doesn’t need to “prove” you used a script; it only needs to determine that “this user’s behavioral pattern deviates significantly from the probability distribution of real human users” to trigger an alert. This is why many “perfect” scripts, after running for one or two weeks, or even one or two months, still lead to account issues. Risk control has patience; it observes and learns.

Practices That Become “More Dangerous as Scale Increases”

In the early stages of entrepreneurship, with a small team and few accounts, many problems were masked. Once the business scales up, the following practices become particularly dangerous:

  1. Blind Faith in “Clean” Environments, Ignoring Behavioral Consistency. This is the biggest pitfall. Many people spend a lot of money on “residential IPs” and “real SIM cards,” thinking they are safe with this “hardware.” However, if all accounts exhibit the same behavioral patterns (even when using tools like FBMM for bulk operations, where all accounts perform the exact same actions at the same second), in the eyes of the system, it’s no different from using data center IPs. The “cleanliness” of the environmental fingerprint might be less important than the “abnormality” of the behavioral fingerprint.

An account with no random human intervention (like occasionally browsing the feed on a mobile app, liking a post, or replying to a complex comment) has a behavioral trajectory that is too “clean” and “efficient,” which itself is a risk signal. The system likes to see a bit of “noise,” a bit of “inefficiency”; that’s what a real user looks like.
  3. Ignoring Account “Lifecycle” and “Social Graph”. A new account starts adding friends, joining groups, and posting advertising links frantically on its second day. This is abnormal on any social platform. A healthy account should have a growth curve: initial exploration, establishing a few stable connections, and gradually engaging in content interaction. Therefore, even for a marketing account, try to make it “appear” to be contributing value: publish useful information for the target audience, participate in normal discussions in relevant communities (not just posting ads), and engage in back-and-forth interactions with other real accounts. This is more effective than any technical disguise.

In this process, the role of tools also changed. I no longer look for “invisible” magic tools, but for tools that can help me better manage this “authenticity” and “complexity.” For instance, I need to easily configure differentiated, weighted random operation flows for different account groups; I need to clearly see the behavior logs and health metrics of each account, rather than a black box; I need reliable environmental isolation to avoid low-level mistakes causing association.

It depends on your account type, content quality, industry competition, and possibly even the platform’s overall governance trends during the same period. This requires continuous, small-scale testing and perception.
  • The ratio of human to automation? How much human intervention is enough? This is likely an eternal trade-off between cost and security.
  • The gray area of platform policies: Many multi-account operations themselves fall into a gray area of platform policies. All our efforts are aimed at increasing the probability of survival and operation in this gray area, not obtaining “legal status.”

Finally, let me answer a few frequently asked questions:

Q: Is it safe to use anti-detect browsers and residential IPs? A: They are necessary but not sufficient conditions. They solve the basic problem of environmental isolation, but whether an account is ultimately safe depends more on the behavior within “this clean environment.” It’s like having a perfect fake ID (environment), but if you use it to do the same strange things at the bank every day (behavior), you’ll still be targeted.

Q: Why are small accounts fine, but they get banned as soon as they run ads? A: The advertising system is another level of risk review. It uses more data dimensions (payment information, ad content, landing page quality, user feedback, etc.) and has lower tolerance for commercial activities. An account that can browse normally, once it starts running ads, is like a “regular citizen” becoming a “street vendor,” and the scrutiny it receives is naturally stricter.

Q: Is there a foolproof method? A: Unfortunately, I don’t think so. This is a dynamic game. The only “foolproof” approach is to completely shift to compliant, high-quality account operation strategies, but this is unrealistic for many businesses in their early stages. A more practical approach is to: accept the existence of risk, and establish a process and redundancy mechanisms that can quickly identify risks, mitigate losses, and restore operations. Risk control is not about pursuing zero risk, but about managing the cost of risk.

Ultimately, instead of getting bogged down in a “technical arms race” to crack risk control, it’s better to step back and think from the platform’s perspective: what kind of community does it want to build? What does it fear? What does it welcome? Do our operations make it feel like “troublemakers have arrived,” or “a group of users who are a bit noisy but quite valuable”?
